Recently, we have seen the Amber Alert system save lives
by getting valuable information to freeway drivers. TLMS
could work in conjunction with that system and speed the
delivery time of information to drivers by extending the
program to intersections within cities throughout the United
States. This will encourage all citizens to help apprehend
individuals who are attempting to avoid detection by taking
side streets instead of freeways.
This
traffic management system could help improve our nation’s
Homeland Security as well. This system can alert drivers
to changes in the recently initiated color-coded security
levels and warn them of security checkpoints ahead. TLMS
could also alert the motoring public in the event of a National
crisis. The major advantage of this system is that the motorist
is compelled to watch the red light (and the message board),
thus commanding his or her attention. FEMA will co-ordinate
drivers in real time in the event of massive evacuations
necessitated by floods, hurricanes or even nuclear emergencies.
