The message board could serve to expedite traffic by alerting motorists in "real time" of many problems that may be ahead in the driver's path. For example, the message board may read, "Accident ahead, turn at Thomas Road." Imagine, having a choice to avoid a backup before you get there. Further, the message boards may also transmit data acquired through the use of road sensors and video cameras on highways and city streets. Motorists attempting to enter freeways could be alerted to heavy traffic prior to entering the on-ramps.
